Many people who move beyond the shores of Koh Phangan and Koh Samui find that Koh Tao offers wonderful resorts, fantastic diving, beautiful views and a variety of restaurants serving excellent cuisine. Koh Tao, initially home to large sea turtles and occasional fishermen, has now developed over the past 10-15 years as one of Thailand's premier tourist destinations. Local business owners are now providing many goods and services that will make for a pleasurable holiday.
Now more than ever it is easier to get to Koh Tao via one of the high speed catamaran boats. Travelers can arrive from one of the neighboring islands, or from Bangkok, at a very reasonable cost and in a short period of time.
Diving in and around Koh Tao's beautiful coral reefs is one of the real driving forces behind the island's development. From the beginner to the advanced all divers will be happy with their experience. Koh Tao also offers a wide range of accommodation to fit any budget.
Traveling around the island to visit other beaches and bays can be adventurous to say the least. Just off the main concrete road drivers will encounter dirt roads (sometimes washed away) potholes and sharp curves covered in sand. Pick-ups and taxies can be found almost everywhere but remember to always ask the price before you go anywhere. Renting motorbikes can be a fun way to see the island but if you are not a very experienced driver it may cost you many thousands of baht for minor damages.
The dining and evening social hours in Koh Tao are extremely fun. Try taking part in a happy hour BBQ on the beach. Or relax with a nice glass of wine or a cocktail in one of the trendy night spots listening to the sounds of international DJ's. Koh Tao also has its share of pubs with pool tables, darts and live music.
Koh Tao welcomes all to come and enjoy the beauty of the island, but please help us by conserving the natural resources. Use only the water you need and make sure taps are turned off. Be careful around the coral reef they take hundreds of years to grow back and please keep it clean…
